Official Statement
The orthodox public affaris committee (OPAC) Laments bombing of saint porphyrius greek orthodox church in gaza city

The Orthodox Public Affairs Committee (OPAC) is deeply saddened by the recent bombing of the Saint Porphyrius Greek Orthodox Church in Gaza City which has stood since the 12th century. We condemn this act of violence and extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the entire Greek Orthodox community affected by this tragedy.

OPAC firmly believes in the sanctity of sacred spaces and the importance of protecting religious sites as symbols of peace, unity, and spirituality. The bombing of a place of worship, of any faith, is an affront to the values we hold dear and signifies a grave violation of human rights.

We urgently call for an immediate end to the senseless killing of innocent civilians, both Israeli and Palestinian. The loss of innocent lives is an intolerable consequence of ongoing conflicts in the region. It is imperative that all parties involved recognize the significance of preserving life and prioritize peaceful dialogue to bring an end to this mayhem.

OPAC remains committed to defending sacred space, whether it be physical, intellectual, moral or spiritual; to speak for the voiceless, to listen to the unheard, and to manifest the righteous causes of Christians and people of conscience everywhere.

We urge the international community to join us in condemning violence and calling for an end to the cycle of bloodshed not only in the Middle East, but in Ukraine as well. Only through peaceful coexistence and dialogue can we hope to achieve lasting peace in the world.
