PATRIARCH KIRILL CO-OPTS THE ORTHODOX FAITH FOR DEATH
Since the beginning of the illegal and fratricidal invasion of Ukraine by Russia, the Patriarch of Moscow has proven to be a willing stooge of Vladimir Putin and a cheerleader of war. However, with his recent endorsement of dying and killing in the name of this war, Kirill has crossed a line into blatant heresy and betrayal of any Christian values.
His statement to the 300,000 being called up and forced to fight in Ukraine: “Go bravely to fulfill your military duty. And remember that if you lay down your life for your country, you will be with God in his kingdom, glory and eternal life,” is a Christian version of extremist terrorism. He promises those who kill their spiritual brothers and sisters and die themselves a place in Heaven. This is so utterly un-Christian that it is amazing that the leaders of the other Autocephalous Orthodox Churches have not universally condemned him and this teaching.
The Orthodox Public Affairs Committee (OPAC) decries Kirill’s shameless and obvious play to Putin and reminds the world that Kirill has singlehandedly alienated the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, formerly part of the Moscow Patriarchate, his own flock! His slavish obeisance to Putin has completely replaced any allegiance he ever had to Christ. The Orthodox Church must rebuke this message.
